zoveel fijne wensen, van zoveel toffe mensen... Wat kan ik hieraan nog toevoegen?
Je kan terugkijken op een lange, gevarieerde carrière en nog belangrijker, je kan nu uitkijken naar een periode waarin deadlines, uren en tijd geen rol meer spelen, maar wel door jezelf kunnen ingevuld worden hoe je maar wenst. Met activiteiten waar je jezelf in kan terugvinden, met familie en vrienden - en niet met zeurende collega's die achter je veren zitten voor cijfers of informatie die - god weet - waarvoor dienen.
Ik dank je voor de (weliswaar korte) tijd dat we hebben samengewerkt en voor de 'rondleidingen' en praktische uitleg die je me hebt gegeven - en die het theoretische van documenten en facturen omtoverden in iets tastbaars.
Nog veel geluk en vooral ook plezier in je '2e leven' dat nu begint! Geniet ervan!

well things have changed a lot since we first met 9 years ago, with the ASECO International European Data Centre project. At that time we could never have guessed what changes lay ahead for all of us.

Anyway as a broader team we've taken on many a challenge and I'm sure have supported and enabled Safmarine to maximise on their I.T. infrastructure to meet the continual business development targets.

It was a privilege to work with you throughout this time, especially in the early days when I had so much to learn about ASECO,the various agencies, Tradeware and life in Belgium.

Anyway enjoy the well deserved retirement and time with family, and I'm sure someone with your energy will find some challenging areas to divert your energies to.

in a way i become a little bit jealous.

you're through with all that "must", we have in our working life. now it is you to decide "what am i doing when ?". you can get up in the morning ( and perhaps sleep a little in the afternoon) whenever you want. you can go wherever you want. you can stay wherever you want. you can meet whomever you want (and decide not to see some special persons again). etc., etc. there will be a lot more freedom in your future life, however, i'm sure that you'll not be bored.

it was fine to work together with you, i learned a lot from you and i admire you for the patience you had with me when i was "not easy to
handle". you know that i'm in antwerp at least once a month. see you there. me at work (but not in the evening) you as "privatier"
so i don't say good bye but only "see you next time, my friend."

I fondly remember the pride you showed, when you took many of us on the walking tour of Antwerp. I remain amazed at how well you know your beloved city. The many glasses of wine, the great beer and of course the good food we shared on my many trips to Antwerp.

Lieve Frits ! Het is een paar jaartjes geleden, ken je me nog ? Ik wil je van harte proficiat wensen met je pensioen, geniet ervan want je hebt het zeker verdiend! Je was echt een heel aangename collega, ik heb met jou goed samengewerkt én gelachen. Ik ben na Safmarine een andere richting uitgetrokken … ik doe nu al een paar jaartjes expeditie en admin voor douane. Maar denk nog regelmatig terug aan de leuke tijd die ik heb gehad op Safmarine.

Je hebt je altijd énorm ingezet voor de firma en ik denk dat ze jou daar wel gaan missen !

Het wordt bij SAF in ieder geval een stuk saaier,

ze zullen je daar missen, afzwaaier!

Maar één goede raad wil ik je nog meegeven,

als je niet meer hoeft te werken, begint het vrije leven.

Dus wat je ook uitvreet of nog wilt gaan doen :

je doet het niet meer voor de poen!

Geen gezeur meer, geen stress meer en al de rest,

en de koffie smaakt thuis toch het best.

Geen baas meer die loopt te commanderen,

zoiets zou ik ook wel waarderen J

Dus lieve ex-collega, geniet er maar van,

nu is het de tijd dat het kan!

When I hired you early February '98 at our European agency network for the implementation of Tradeware in our French agency, the youngsters in the team at the time had their doubts...You proofed their wrong... It must give you a very good feeling reading their own comments now... Not only did you succeed in what wasn't an easy implementation, but you contributed a lot in the years thereafter when you moved into the bigger Saf-IS team.

You clearly have left your footprint and hence wish you a more then deserved "active retirement" amongst your beloved ones. Make it still a long and safe journey.

Dank voor de vlotte samenwerking.

Uw gedrevenheid , inzet en zin voor orde zijn voor andere een voorbeeld.
Ze hebben ons zeker voorbereid op onze nieuwe opdracht binnen IBM.

De verhuis naar de Archimedes building was meer dan enkel
wat meer blauw en nieuwe bureau's.
Het was een volgende stap in het bouwen van een sterker IS team.
Wat we zelf organiseerde was zeker niet slechter dan sommige
gespecialiseerde firma's, zie maar naar de computerruimtes.

Natuurlijk was er meer dan enkel werken en van deze gelegenheden
weet ik dat je er wel in zal slagen om uw dagen te vullen met
cultuur, reizen , familie en vrienden, en genieten.

Ook buiten het werk hebben we verschillende toffen momenten beleefd

Het bezoek aan DuitslandVolkswerft Stralsund shipyard in Germany was zeker één van de hoogte punten, ook tijdens Aseco waren er toffe momenten , ik denk hier aan de famely day.

Frits bedankt voor al de tips in al deze jaren , mijn tip voor jouw kan enkel zijn 'geniet van je vrije tijd en blijf gezond'

Frits, I have mixed emotions about your impending retirement. I know that you have lots of things to do and you will be able to spend lots of time with your grand children who you are so proud of. On the other hand I will loose a friend in the work environment. It has always been a pleasure to work with some one with integrity and straight forwardness. You are a person who is "what you see is what you get" with no hidden agendas. I really do have great memories of the many work and social times we spent together. I especially remember our trip to Houston, the wonderful guided tour of Antwerp you gave June and I and the evening you spent in our house on your last trip to South Africa.

Retirement is the point where a person stops employment. A person may also semi-retire and keep some sort of job, although usually out of choice rather than necessity. Het is echt goed raak, wij hebben een vreemde smaak.
Hij is heel lang gebleven, heeft jaren alles gegeven
Hij kende geen werkvrees, hield van elke database.

En wist je het nu nog nie, hij heeft ook een hobby,
Kan gidsen als een "pro", hij heeft cultuur en zo.
Veel humor en gevat, neemt hij je mee door 't stad,
Zijn Antwerpen, een wereldstad.

Er is iets in zijn ogen, het is moeilijk te geloven,
Echt geen "imagination", ze noemen het "dedication",
Voor ons is hij een collega, voor anderen een toffe "opa"
De familie is nu dolblij, opa is nu altijd van de partij.

Het wordt hard om te verduren, we krijgen nog hete vuren
We komen er wel doorheen, we redden het wel alleen.
Al deze getuigenissen, iedereen zal je missen.
We zeggen geen vaarwel, hangen nog wel aan de bel...

Het ga je goed....

As you reach this important milestone in your life that affords you the time to spend more closely with family, friends and others, I want to wish you everything of the best in your retirement.

I thoroughly enjoyed the time that we spent together during the Project Charlie deal and especially the time that you enlightened me on on the history of Antwerpen. You are by
far the best tour guide that I know in Antwerpen and I sincerely hope that you will continue to pass on your rich knowledge of the City to other fortunate people who have the pleasure of your company in the future.

Als we de statistieken mogen geloven dan behoor jij tot de minderheid van de vlamingen die na z'n zestigste nog actief gebleven is. Dat is op zich al een prestatie die respect en waardering verdient. Tijdens jou carriere bij Safmarine heb ik je ervaren als iemand met een sterke overtuiging, recht door zee maar ook iemand die altijd bereid was om te luisteren en oplossingen aan te dragen. Vooral die laatste dingen heb ik erg gewaardeerd. De komst van je kleinkinderen hebben veel veranderd in je leven. Ik hoop dan ook dat je binnenkort met volle teugen kan genieten van het full-time opa zijn en van de dingetje waarvoor je nooit de tijd vond.

I met you many years ago whilst you were in the Aseco building working with the European Agents systems implementations.

I also remember that it took about 4 years before we finally did your Antwerp walking tour, and since the first tour I have enjoyed many more walks with you and all the various visitors. I have enjoyed our chats, lunches and dinners, seeing the photos of your dear grandchildren and sharing their lives with you and working with you as a colleague through all the various projects.

Thank-you for being a friend and I see this friendship continuing even after your retirement.

So you are now joining the ranks of the retired – well – let me tell you – it’s just as good as they make it out to be. Imagine being able to do what you want – when you want to – and possibly not having to do it at all !! (the wife willing). The best part is not having to contend with the traffic to do it !!

The few years I worked with you I always found you to be straight forward – calling a spade a shovel when you had to – but one always knew where you stood. That is a great quality – and you must continue with that into your new status in life.

I wish you a long, happy and healthy retirement – and keep in touch with all your buddies.
